Q: Why do you think people still go to flea markets?
A: People go to flea markets for a number of reasons. A lot of people want to find interesting things to put in their homes, like antique furniture, knick-knacks, mirrors, or lamps. Some people have specific collections, and they are hoping to find an interesting piece to add to that collection. These days there are a lot of “do-it-yourself”-ers who go to flea markets to buy broken, beat up things so they can either rebuild them or make something entirely new out of the pieces. These people either turn around and resell the newly refreshed piece, or they use it to decorate their homes.

みんながフリーマーケットに行くにはたくさんの理由があるわ。たくさんの人が家庭に置くアンティーク家具、骨董品、鏡、ランプなど、面白いものを見つけたいの。特定のコレクションをしている人もいるわね。コレクションに加えられるような面白いものを見つけたいのね。最近では、自分でなんでも作る人たちが壊れているもの、使い古しのものを買いにフリーマーケットにたくさん行って、それを作り直したり、それから全く新しいものをつくるの。こういう人たちは新しく改造したものを作って再販したり、家の装飾に使ったりするのよ。
