Is it not allowed to hang up the laundry outside in the US?

Q: Is it not allowed to hang up the laundry outside?

A: The vast majority of apartment buildings and condominium buildings in the US do not allow laundry to be hung outside. It is seen as tacky and low class. I suppose the idea is that only the poor would need to hang their clothing outside, because everyone else would have access to an electric dryer.

Many buildings have very strict rules about what can be outside of the apartments, on balconies or patios. Some buildings specify what kind of decorations, furniture, etc can be displayed. Most buildings do not allow political signs to be hung, either. I have even heard of buildings that did not allow any holiday decorations or children’s toys to be left on the balcony.
