Q: What do you feel is the difference between teaching English and teaching other things (Making floral arrangements, auditing, etc)?
A: Well, obviously they are very different subjects! People are usually learning things like tie-dye or floral arrangement for fun, whereas people usually have a goal for English. Craft classes are usually just for fun, so people come to the class prepared to have fun, and hopefully learn something they will remember. With English or auditing, people come to the class prepared to learn, and hope to have a little fun along the way!
From a personal perspective, teaching ISO auditing was absolutely the worst! My job was to train my co-workers to do internal auditing. ISO auditing is very tedious, boring, and time-consuming, so most of my co-workers did NOT want to learn how to do it. As a result, sometimes when I would walk into a department to look for volunteers to take the training, people would run away from me! It’s hard not to feel bad when your co-workers run and hide, hahahaaa!
Q: 英語を教えるのとフラワーアレンジメント、監査等を教えることの違いは何？
A: まあ、もちろん全然分野が違うわね！絞り染めやフラワーアレンジメントのようなものを習うのは楽しみのためだけど、英語にはたいてい目標があるわよね。工芸のクラスはただ楽しみのためで、クラスを楽しみに、まあ覚えられることを習えればいいかなという感覚でクラスにやってくる。英語や監査は学ぶため、その中で少し楽しければいいなという感覚でクラスを受ける。
個人的には、ISO監査を教えるのは最悪だった！私の仕事は同僚に内部監査の研修をすることだったの。ISO監査は退屈で、飽き飽きするものだから、同僚のほとんどはそのやり方を学びたがらなかったわ。その結果、時々その研修を受ける人はいないかと私が部内を回ると、同僚たちが私から逃げていくのよ！自分の同僚が逃げ隠れするのを見ると罪悪感を感じずにはいられなかったわ（笑）！
